The GIS-based (Geographic Information System) map was generated by overlaying of existing databases such as topography; critical habitat for threatened and endangered species; and areas that are substantially reduce, or have the potential to substantially reduce, pollutants from entering the Bay. Not all of these lands have been or will be acquired for conservation and the property rights of private owners will be honored fully. The map can serve as a general guide of areas that are considered the highest priority for conservation.
